With my love of making animals with dramatic horns and my good friend Marion’s big birthday approaching fast, I knew exactly what I wanted to “Twist” for her special day. A Springbok, the national animal of South Africa, a beautiful, elegant member of the antelope family with wonderful twisted horns.

Whilst attaching the horns to the head of the piece, I knew there was only one name for my latest “Twist”. She just had to be called Maleficent. No reflection on my friends personality but rather informed by the strong resemblance to the horns worn by Angelina Jolie in the film of the same name!

A solid piece of vintage oak from the local salvage yard, sanded and polished to a honey glow made a perfect base. Once mounted with the aid of my trusty partner in crime, Martin, she was ready to be delivered to the birthday girl.

Let the celebrations begin!
