When my sister, Fi, asked me to twist a bird as a gift I did a little research, what would we do without the internet! In order for twists to work they need be a certain size and to have recognisable features, the lapwing with its distinctive head shape and crest fitted the bill, so I said I would have a go.

The lapwing came together relatively quickly but it was the base that once again was the challenge. I found some natural slate in the local garden centre, the colours in the stone were lovely and reminded me of the birds natural habitat. Sorted, or so I thought!

With the help of my trusty technical advisor, Martin, we set about marking and drilling the holes for the mount. Unfortunately they were in the wrong place! Martin was very relieved it wasn’t his mistake ! A second piece of stone, a little drilling later and Flicka had a base which I I think i prefer to the first.
All’s well that ends well 😊

Hope you like it Sparky x x
