Catkin & Willow – 2021

When my cousin, Claire, asked if she could commission a Twist for her daughter Rebecca’s and fiancé Gideon’s wedding present, I wasn’t sure that it was something I could manage. When she said they would love a pair of kittens I was even more unsure!
Commissions are not something I would usually take on. I normally choose the subjects to Twist with specific characteristics in mind such as dramatic horns or defined body shapes. Kittens, although very cute and fluffy are not usually seen as dramatic subjects and I found it hard to picture how to Twist them!
Working to a deadline and an important one too, also wasn’t something I found easy but I agreed to give it a go.

After some research and a great deal of thought I decided that giving the pair some movement was the only way forward and set about twisting. One of the pair would be reaching up swiping the air and the second one sitting above the first, would be reaching down to bat the first.
As the wedding date rapidly approached the kittens were finally taking shape. I sourced a base for them to sit on, an interesting chunk of silver birch from mums woodpile and the piece was complete.
The pair are now sitting proudly in Rebecca & Gideon’s Worcestershire garden.
I hope you both enjoy them and wish you every happiness for a long and joyful life together. Xx
